TERRI SCHIAVO DIES
3/31/05, Pinellas Park, FL: Terri Schiavo passed away today at her hospice in Pinellas Park, Florida. Terri's death was forced by the removal of her feeding tube by her guardian, Michael Schiavo, technically still her husband but living with another woman with whom he has fathered two children. Mr. Schiavo prevailed after dogged persistence that foods and fluids be withheld from Terri; this, despite the fact that Terri's parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, were willing to care for her.We mourn the loss of Terri and send our sincere condolences to the Schindler's, who did everything humanly possible to protect Terri, her right to receive medical treatment, including rehabilitative therapy, and her right to live as a disabled woman.
We also mourn the fact that our nation has turned from one that protects its weak and vulnerable to one whose courts condone the hastened death of disabled individuals.
May God have mercy on our nation and those who contributed to the hastening of Terri's death by misrepresenting her medical condition.
Life Legal Defense Foundation, was established in 1989, and is a non-profit organization composed of attorneys and other concerned citizens, committed to giving helpless and innocent human beings of any age, and their advocates, a trained and committed voice in the courtrooms of our nation.
