“Mother, May I” Law Challenged in Federal Court
On June 26, federal District Court Judge Charles Breyer heard arguments on the constitutionality of a “Mother May I” law enacted by the city of Oakland, California, in response to the peaceful sidewalk counseling activity of Rev. Walter Hoye. The city ordinance prohibits approaching without consent within 8 feet of any person seeking to enter an abortion clinic, for the purpose of leafleting or engaging in “protest, education, or counseling” of that person.

Excerpts from Wilkinson (PBA Decision Virginia 2009
On June 24, an en banc panel of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Virginia’s ban on partial birth abortion, overturning the earlier ruling of a three-judge panel striking down the law. Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson wrote a powerful concurrence to that decision, excerpts of which are printed below.

On October 29, 1941, Great Britain’s Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, visited Harrow School to address the students and in his speech to them said, “Never give in, never give in, never; never; never; never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.”[read article]

The unfortunate shooting death of abortionist George Tiller this past May has once again focused attention on Kansas as the late-term abortion capital of the nation. Gone unmentioned by the media, however, was the fact that for six years Kansas had a pro-life prosecutor who put his career on the line in an unflagging effort to put an end to Tiller’s late-term abortion practice through legal means. Regrettably, as Phill Kline discovered, the Kansas political machine was just as determined to keep abortion “safe” from his criminal enforcement efforts. Although Kline was ultimately thwarted in his efforts to enforce Kansas abortion laws, LLDF commends him as representing the highest and best one could hope to find in a public servant. Before getting to his comments, it is worth recapping the story of Phill Kline’s dogged fight to hold the abortion industry accountable to the citizens of Kansas.

Baby’s Life Spared, Thanks to LLDF Advance Healthcare Directive
On February 3, sidewalk counselor Georgia Warwick met a distraught couple outside an abortion clinic. Nereyda was 4-1/2 months pregnant and had just been diagnosed with stage-4 sarcoma cancer; it had invaded her lung, heart, and pulmonary artery. She had a three-doctor consultation scheduled for February 13 and had been told to abort her baby by then or she could not be treated.
